Childhood Hero
by Rodney D. Hall
Written for Uncle Chuck whom I have always looked up to
Presented and Sung by Ricky & Rodney for his 90th Birthday August 2009

He learned how to work when working was hard
Stretching each dollar farther than far
He knew where he was going, He was my childhood hero
He loved flying planes and driving fast cars
Fishin’ and family and reaching for the stars
His adventurous life made him my childhood hero
He left college back in forty-one
Defending our country with courage and gun
His Love for America made him my child-hood hero
At the Battle of the Buldge in nineteen forty-five
A Purple Heart shows his will to survive
Character of steel made him my childhood hero
Bigger than life, cooler than cool
The kind of man children read of in school
Taller than his height, he was my childhood hero
A soldier, a pilot, a hardworking man
Telling stories like no one else can
He seemed to have it all, he was my childhood hero
He met Mary in a small town cafe
Good looks and charm quickly swept her away
Seeing them together made him my childhood hero
He raised his children with great love and pride
Watching their journey to successful lives
His legacy of love made him my childhood hero
I often think of those great summer days
Driving go-carts and flying in planes
Asking and learning 'bout life from my childhood hero
But now I am older, some things need to change
Childhood memories must be rearranged
So from now on I'll simply call him..... my grown-up hero
